Morning With Jesus

Every long-distance runner understands the heavy wall of exhaustion that hits miles into a race. Your legs feel like lead, your lungs ache, and your mind begs you to simply stop and rest. Our spiritual journey often mimics this exact physical struggle. We usually start our walk with Christ full of intense energy and bright passion. Over time, heavy burdens, daily distractions, and difficult seasons threaten to drain our endurance. We stumble over unexpected obstacles and wonder if we have enough strength left to reach the end.

There is a profound beauty in the opening chords of a classic hymn. When we hear the familiar melodies of "Amazing Grace" or "How Great Thou Art," deep memories quickly flood our minds. We remember sitting in wooden pews beside our loved ones, holding thick hymnals, and blending our voices with the local congregation. These timeless songs carry far more than just pleasant notes; they hold the tested faith of the generations who walked long before us. Through decades of changing seasons, these lyrics have offered steady comfort and unshakable hope to believers facing every kind of earthly struggle.

Walking into a familiar sanctuary and seeing things shift can feel deeply unsettling. Over the years, congregations naturally evolve. You might notice a new style of worship music, different faces in the pews, or a shift in how ministry programs operate. Change often brings a quiet sense of loss because we attach deep memories to the way things used to be. Yet, a healthy church must grow and adapt to reach a hurting world. Just as a strong tree grows new branches while its roots dig deeper into the soil, our places of worship must embrace necessary growth to share the gospel effectively.

The upper room grew quiet as Jesus took a towel and a basin of water. He knelt on the dusty floor before His closest friends. In that time, washing feet was a messy task strictly reserved for the lowest servant in a household. Yet, the Creator of the universe willingly chose to perform this humble job. We naturally spend so much of our energy trying to climb higher, seeking recognition, and wanting others to serve us. Jesus completely flipped this human standard on its head. He showed us that true greatness is never found in a title or a position of worldly power.

Simon Peter and his crew spent the entire night casting their heavy nets into the dark water, only to pull them up completely empty. Exhaustion settled deep into their bones. We know exactly how that feels. You pour your energy into a difficult project, a struggling relationship, or a quiet prayer, yet nothing seems to change. We often reach the end of our own strength, feeling like we have absolutely nothing left to show for our intense labor. Right in that space of profound fatigue, Jesus steps into Simon’s boat and asks him to try one more time. Going back out to the deep water made zero sense to an experienced fisherman in the middle of the day, but Jesus operates far beyond our human logic.

Total darkness surrounded Jonah when he found himself trapped in the belly of a great fish. He had run as far as he could from the path God clearly laid out for him. In that terrifying, lonely space beneath the waves, he hit absolute rock bottom. Many of us understand exactly how Jonah felt. We face sudden storms, painful losses, or heavy consequences that plunge us into a deep emotional darkness. When everything around us collapses, we quickly realize we have completely run out of human solutions.

We naturally find it incredibly easy to spot the flaws in the people around us. When a friend makes a poor choice or a family member reacts in anger, we are often quick to point out their mistakes. It takes very little effort to notice the tiny speck of sawdust in someone else's life. Yet, when it comes to our own shortcomings, we suddenly develop a severe case of blindness. We easily excuse our own bad habits, harsh words, and selfish motives while holding others to an impossible standard. This quickness to judge creates a painful distance between us and deeply harms the supportive community God calls us to build.

Many of us face moments when the road ahead looks entirely impassable. A sudden medical diagnosis, a fractured family relationship, or a heavy financial burden can quickly build a wall that seems too high to climb. During these difficult seasons, our natural strength fades, and we realize that a human solution simply will not work. We find ourselves in a place where only a profound, divine intervention can change our circumstances. It is completely normal to feel overwhelmed when the odds stack up against you. Yet, as a supportive community sharing this spiritual journey, we must remember that our Heavenly Father specializes in the impossible.
