Morning With Jesus

Change is one of the few constants in life, yet it is often the very thing we resist the most. Whether it is a shift in our careers, a change in our family dynamics, or a move to a new location, transition can feel unsettling. We find comfort in the familiar, even if the familiar is no longer where we are meant to be. However, recognizing when it is time to change is a vital part of spiritual maturity. God often uses seasons of transition to move us from where we are to where He needs us to be for the next chapter of our purpose.

One of the greatest callings we have is to nurture the faith of the next generation. Guiding a child’s spiritual journey is a precious opportunity, a sacred trust given to parents, grandparents, teachers, and mentors. It is the work of planting seeds of truth in young hearts and prayerfully watching them grow. This is not about forcing a rigid set of rules, but about gently and consistently pointing them toward the source of all love and life, Jesus Christ.

When someone we know is facing illness, it can be difficult to know what to do or say. We may feel inadequate, fearing we will be a bother or that we will not have the right words of comfort. Yet, Jesus gives us a clear and powerful picture of how we should respond to those who are suffering. In His description of the final judgment, He places visiting the sick right alongside feeding the hungry and clothing the naked as a direct service to Him. When we care for the sick, we are not just performing a kind act; we are ministering to Christ Himself.

We live in a world that constantly encourages us to promote ourselves. From social media highlights to workplace achievements, the pressure to be seen, heard, and admired is relentless. In such a culture, admitting that "it’s hard to be humble" feels like an understatement. Our natural human instinct is self-preservation and self-elevation. We want to be right, we want to be recognized, and we often fear that if we lower ourselves, we will be overlooked or taken advantage of. Humility feels risky because it requires us to lay down our pride, our desire for control, and our need for validation.

Our church staff and leaders are often the most visible figures in our spiritual community. They stand before us to preach, teach, lead worship, and guide ministries, and we are blessed by their labor. It is easy to see them in their public roles and forget the immense personal sacrifice and tireless effort that goes on behind the scenes. These individuals carry the weight of many burdens—not just their own, but the spiritual and emotional needs of the entire congregation. They navigate complex challenges, pour out their hearts in prayer, and dedicate their lives to serving God by serving His people.

In our modern world, tolerance is often presented as the highest virtue. We are encouraged to accept all beliefs and lifestyles as equally valid, and to challenge another's truth is often seen as judgmental or unkind. While love, kindness, and respect for others are undeniably central to our faith, we must ask ourselves a critical question: have we become so tolerant that we are willing to compromise on the unchanging truth of God's Word? The call to love our neighbor is not a call to dilute the scripture to make it more palatable or to avoid difficult conversations for the sake of comfort.

Our culture often wears busyness like a badge of honor. We fill our calendars to the brim, rushing from one task to the next, fueled by the belief that our productivity defines our worth. The idea of slowing down, let alone stopping completely, can feel like a luxury we simply cannot afford. We tell ourselves we are too busy to rest. Yet, this mindset goes against the very rhythm God established for creation. From the beginning, He modeled a pattern of work and rest, declaring the Sabbath holy—a day set apart for replenishment and connection with Him.

It is part of the human condition to look around at what others possess and feel a twinge of longing. We see a friend’s career success, a neighbor’s happy family, or someone else’s financial freedom, and suddenly, our own lives can feel inadequate. This craving for what we do not have is subtle at first, but if left unchecked, it can grow into a deep-seated discontentment. We begin to view our blessings through a lens of scarcity rather than abundance, focusing entirely on the empty spaces rather than the overflowing cup God has placed in our hands.
